Requesting a Website
A formal request process will be initiated for students, faculty or staff members representing organizations, offices or departments, who wish to create a public-facing digital presence outside of the college’s authorized websites.
It is expected that college offices, services and academic departments maintain a primary web presence on the main college website, davidson.edu. Deviation from navigation and content standards requires approval from College Communications; please email digitalstaff@davidson.edu
Sites for personal identity can be achieved with Davidson Domains, a college-sponsored web hosting service to give students and employees the opportunity to create a personally-owned and managed internet presence. The service also allows for a personalized subdomain name using the naming convention myname.dcreate.domains. Information about creating a faculty, course or student-created website can be found on the Digital Projects website. For a digital project subdomain request, please complete the Digital Projects @ Davidson Subdomain Request Form.
Requests that are neither personal identity sites, or qualify as a Digital Project, will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and may be granted based on the following criteria:
- Purpose falls outside of an existing authorized college website
- Site content cannot or should not reside on an existing authorized college website
- Request form below is complete and adequately answered
- Size and composition of target audience
- No potential negative impacts, duplication or conflicts of interest
Site owners who would like their website to have a DNS name that contains “.davidson.edu” should fill in the Request for Domain Name (DNS) or Subdomain URL Form.
